Forget Perfect White Teeth: Why Natural Smiles Are the Ultimate Self-Care Trend Dental Care is the New Self-Care

We have all had that one dreadful experience at the dentist. Whether it was suffering from tooth decay after munching on sugary treats or feeling self-conscious about a casual comment on bad breath, many Filipinos have historically turned to frugality rather than face their fear of professional dentists. The result? An overreliance on painkillers for toothaches and mindlessly continuing improper dental hygiene habits.

However, dental visits are undergoing a modern shift. Around the world, oral health is steadily becoming an essential act of self-care and wellness—right alongside personalized skincare routines and modern fitness habits.

Filipinos are officially moving away from the old “fix-it-when-it-breaks” attitude and abandoning outdated standards of unnaturally stark white teeth. Today, the focus is on achieving an ideal smile that is healthy, functional, and tailored to individual facial features and personality.

That is precisely where Dentacare comes in.

A Personalized Approach to Oral Health

“The goal isn’t to create the same smile for everyone but to enhance each person’s unique appearance with results that look effortless and natural,” says Dra. Ma. Corazon Josefina Villadolid-Cristi, Chief Dentist and COO at Dentacare.

Dentacare specializes in natural enhancement—a thoughtful redesign of the right smile for every individual. Instead of chasing fleeting social media trends or forcing a specific shade, the clinic evaluates gum health, tooth structure, facial proportions, and long-term sustainability. For Dentacare, “the best smile isn’t the one that looks like someone else’s, but the one that looks like the best version of you.”

This same “best version of you” mindset carries over to dental implants, dentures, and veneers—because at Dentacare, fixing your smile and upgrading it go hand in hand. If you’re missing teeth, their implant game is all about precision, so you can chew, talk, and laugh, with comfort and confidence. They also offer dentures, ensuring a snug fit that stays put (no more worrying about slipping mid-conversation). Their veneers are also a sought-after service, crafted to look like your own teeth on their best day—thin, translucent, and totally believable.

Dental Care as an Everyday Investment

Dentacare aims to position dental services as a natural part of a person’s lifestyle rather than a last resort for pain management. They put regular cleanings, gum care, alignments, and preventive treatments as routine wellness investments—much like maintaining a gym membership or wearing daily sunscreen.

Patients are greeted with a warm, calming atmosphere the moment they step into a clinic, supported by a dental team trained to communicate with empathy and compassion. With 26 branches across accessible locations—primarily inside major malls in Metro Manila and neighboring provinces—getting quality care fits seamlessly into daily life. To ensure seamless service for all clients, one location even employs a Mandarin-speaking staff to accommodate Chinese locals and tourists.

Despite offering high-tech equipment and a skilled team of experts, Dentacare maintains some of the most competitive pricing in the Metro. This combination of clinical excellence and accessibility is why many overseas Filipino workers (OFWs) trust Dentacare for their dental needs when returning home.

Grounded Leadership and People-First Care

At the core of Dentacare’s operating model is a simple principle: quality care starts with the right people. Each branch is staffed with qualified dental professionals and support teams to deliver consistent clinical quality, patient experience, and operational performance across the network.

A third-generation dentist, Dr. Joanna Cristi brings deep clinical expertise and a strong family legacy in dentistry. She developed her expertise in Dental Implantology at the University of the Philippines Manila (U.P. Manila) and further advanced her clinical training through two years of continuing education in Implantology and Oral Rehabilitation at New York University College of Dentistry in New York City. Under her leadership, Dentacare grew from a single Timog Avenue clinic into a multi-branch dental network, beginning its expansion in 2014 with its first mall-based location at SM Jazz Mall.

While leading Dentacare’s strategic direction, operations, and expansion, Dr. Cristi still continues to practice dentistry for 2 days a week. This keeps leadership directly connected to patients and frontline teams, ensuring that strategic decisions remain grounded in the realities of clinical and branch operations.

Dentacare combines data-driven management with people-first leadership. Performance metrics drive accountability and continuous improvement, while clear expectations, feedback, professional development, and recognition strengthen team performance.

Ultimately, this people-first approach translates into the patient experience supporting consistent quality, compassionate care, operational discipline, and sustainable growth across the network.

Oral Care Essentials: Expert Advice from Doc Joanna

What would you say a regular visit or checkup with a dentist would be?

“If you have good and well-maintained oral health, your visit should be at least twice a year. For those who developed a gum disease or mild gingivitis to a progressive form; then we suggest you visit every three (3) months to do a deep cleaning, deep scaling.”

How often would you recommend whitening and deep cleaning?

“Deep cleaning ideally should be every three months but that is if you have these deep pockets from a prolonged orthodontic procedure. With the teeth-whitening ideally should be like twice a year only, but if you are able to maintain the whiteness, some patients could just go once a year. For whitening, if you want to achieve the whitest or you have this whiteness in your mind that you want to achieve, try to reach it first, and then you just maintain it every 6 months.”

Do you recommend that people get whitening?

“Yes, it doesn’t just whiten your teeth; it also removes the plaque that develops on top of your enamel.”

What is one dental habit or tool you personally do to keep your teeth healthy, white, and fresh?

“Interdental flossing—or another tool like water floss.”

What’s a common oral mistake that you see a lot of people doing?

“The most common mistake I see people make is brushing harder, really harder, instead of brushing better while completely neglecting the spaces of their teeth or in-between the teeth. It’s like brushing your teeth, but if you forget or neglect to floss, you won’t be able to clean your teeth just by merely brushing; you have to do flossing after.”

Setting a New Standard in Dentistry

Looking ahead, Doc Joanna envisions success beyond simply expanding branch counts. The goal is to establish Dentacare as a national benchmark for accessible, technology-enabled, and consistently excellent dentistry while serving as a platform for clinical training, leadership, and innovation for the next generation of Filipino dentists.

“It’s not really for us dentists to be famous but for the brand to be a household name,” she says, driven by a commitment to raise health standards across the industry for local patients and international visitors alike

George Optical makes eye health a priority with “Don’t Lose Sight” campaign

From weekly eye health lectures to free keratoconus screenings and affordable eyewear packages, the brand puts prevention and accessibility at the forefront this August

Manila, Philippines – With eye health concerns often overlooked until they begin to interfere with everyday life, George Optical launches the “Don’t Lose Sight” campaign in time for Sight Saving Month this August 2026. The leading eye care provider is calling on Filipino communities to take precautionary steps to protect their vision through education, early detection, and timely intervention during its month-long campaign.

Don’t Lose Sight is built on an important message: vision should not be taken for granted. The campaign recognizes that concerns like childhood myopia, prolonged screen-related eye strain, dryness, blurred vision, and other conditions can develop gradually, making awareness and early assessment particularly important.

Making eye health a priority

George Optical aims to promote awareness of responsible eye care while reinforcing its commitment to making professional, reliable, and affordable eye care and treatment accessible to more Filipinos. By supporting regular eye checks and greater awareness of possible warning signs, the campaign instills the value of identifying issues early on and pursuing professional guidance when needed. Combining public education with customer-focused programs and offers, the Don’t Lose Sight campaign has rolled out across George Optical’s channels and stores this month.

A key part of the campaign is the “Thank Your Eyes” Digital Campaign, inviting customers to share what they are most grateful to see through their vision. Turning personal experiences into a collective reminder about the significance of healthy eyesight, George Optical will feature select stories on its social media channels.

George Optical will also prioritize its free basic eye checkups available at its stores, alongside Eyecare 360, a more extensive service for customers seeking assessment of their overall eye health.

Bringing eye health education closer to communities

George Optical will host an Eye Health Lecture Series, featuring weekly YouTube educational sessions with Dr. Eileen Caubalejo, George Optical Professional Services Manager.

The sessions meticulously provide practical, accessible information about eye health. It also encourages viewers to pay closer attention to changes in their vision. By incorporating professional lectures and discussions into an accessible digital format, George Optical hopes to make conversations about eye care part of everyday health awareness.

The campaign also spotlights keratoconus, a progressive eye condition in which the cornea gradually becomes thinner and bulges outward. The condition may cause distorted or blurred vision that can worsen over time if left undetected.

Possible signs include frequent prescription changes, increased sensitivity to light, halos or glare, double or distorted vision, and difficulty seeing clearly even while wearing glasses. While these symptoms may have other causes, they point out the importance of professional eye examinations as vision changes occur.

To support greater awareness and early detection, George Optical practices at SM Megamall and SM Lanang Premier will conduct free Keratoconus Awareness Screenings every Wednesday from 6 p.m. onwards, by appointment.

George Optical recognizes the importance of accessible eye care and consistently includes affordable, quality eye checkups as part of its commitment to helping Filipinos take better care of their vision. Through its campaign, the brand continues to emphasize the value of regular professional eye examinations and offers packages this month to promote their advocacy on a community level.
